The Surf Coast Shire inspected the building in September and shut down the 40-year-old building's accommodation wing, saying it had not been upgraded to meet present-day fire safety standards.
Torquay club captain Noel Dubberley said the club would have to foot a hefty $600,000 renovation bill before it could resume the leasing of rooms and is set to lose thousands of dollars in revenue over the next year.
"The bunk rooms can accommodate up to 65 beds for school and community groups, but it was shut down in November," he said. READ MORE
